5th Grade at Manteno Middle School

Orientation and Move-In Day

  • Please join our “open house” on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 5:30 pm.  Parents and students attend together.  Bring your supplies and materials to move into your classroom and locker.
  • You will pick-up your Chromebook at open house.  Choose a safe place at home to keep it charged.
  • For extra practice with your locker combination, the building will be open the following day on Thursday, August 17 from 8:00 – 3:00 pm.
  • We’ll mail the final school calendar, schedule, traffic instructions, etc., in early August.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

·         Do we need PE uniforms?  No, just gym shoes.

·         Do we get “a la carte” food purchases?  No, but you can choose a salad bar lunch.

·         Do we play on sports teams?  Not quite yet…school sports start in 6th grade.

·         Can we attend dances? Not quite yet…school-sponsored dances begin in 6th grade. We will have a 5th back-to-school activity in September, and 5th graders can attend sports contests and other activities.

·         What clubs are for 5th grade?  Literary, Chess, Yearbook, Student Council, Band, Tech.

·         Do I still have art, PE, and music?  Yes, 5th grade is just like 4th grade but with band and a salad bar!

·         Do we get Chromebooks?  Yes!  Please purchase “ear bud” headphones….we provide a holder.

·         School starts at 8:05 am and ends at 2:55 pm.  Arrive early around 7:50 am so you are on time.

·         Do you have PBIS?  Yes, we have monthly goals, incentive programs, and quarterly drawings.

·         Do you have detentions?  Yes, we have afterschool and Saturday detentions.

·         MMS will accept your MES “Panther Paws” until Christmas.

 

When choosing a book bag, look for one with padding for a laptop computer.
