The Secret to Keyboarding Success

Students use this acronym to help remember correct keyboarding techniques. Each 6th, 7th, & 8th grader has learned what SECRET stands for in keyboarding class. Reinforcing this will help students keep from slipping back into poor keyboarding habits so they can become the best possible typists they can be.

S 

      SIT up straight, arms and wrists straight (don't lean on table),
      feet flat on floor 

  
E      keep EYES on copy (what they are typing) NOT on their fingers
      or the keyboard       
  
C       use the CORRECT fingers
  
R       keep a reasonable RHYTHM (don't rush and stop, etc.) 
  
E       correct ERRORS properly (use little finger to reach backspace
      and return fingers to homerow position) 
  
T       TAP keys as if they are hot (don't lean or push hard on keys)
      Use quick, snappy motion
