Since April 2006, David Conrad has served as Principal at Manteno Middle School in Manteno, Illinois.   During this time, Manteno Middle School has been recognized as a regional leader in middle school philosophy, techology integration, PBIS programming, and innovative instructional practices.  In 2015, he was awarded the Alan G. Lemon Award of Excellence by tthe I-KAN County Administartors Asssociation.

For eight previous years, Conrad taught music in the Manteno schools.  His responsibilities included the district show choir program, elementary band, and middle school band and chorus.  Under his leadership, Manteno Magic and Grand Paws won numerous championships and caption awards in show choir, including a three-year unbeaten streak in divisional competition.  In February 2006, he received the Friend of Music award from the Manteno Show Choir Boosters for his service and leadership in spearheading The Main Event, Manteno's premier show choir competition.

An author of numerous articles and teaching resources, his work has been published on-line and in NFHS Music Journal, The Irish Music Teacher, Eduational Leadership, Phi Kappa Phi Forum, and School Community Relations.  He has been a presenter at conferences for the Illinois Music Educators Association, Illinois Principals Association, and the University Council for Educational Administration.  His successful leadership workshop, Telling Your Story, helps educators communicate effectively through classroom-level public relations.  He has also hosted and developed training materials used in the community relations courses at Governors State University.   Conrad also appeared in the May 2001 Teaching Music magazine in an interview about the professional issues of teacher burnout and retention. 

For eight years, Conrad served as an assessor, trainer, and validator for the National Board For Professional Teaching Standards.  Additional service includes leadership in the Illinois Elementary School Association, Community Arts Council of Kankakee County, Illinois Education Association, and the Kankakee Municipal Band.   He has adjudicated music contests for choirs, concert bands, and marching bands in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Louisiana, Nebraska, and Florida, including work through Central States Judging Association.  He is a co-founder of the River Valley Wind Ensemble and serves as its music director/conductor.
